Ex government official nabbed for alleged tender fraud involving R35m
A 52-year-old former high ranking government official is expected to appear in the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crime Court in October in connection with tender fraud amounting to about R35 million.
He was arrested on Friday by the Hawks’ Commercial Unit.
“It is alleged that the accused was instrumental in manipulating the tender processes of the Department of Health in the Western Cape between 2009 and 2010. The tenders‚ worth approximately R35 million‚ were in respect of provision of security services to local clinics in the Province.
“As a result of the accused’s actions‚ tenders were allegedly unduly awarded to undeserving companies‚ which on-going investigations have since linked with the accused‚” said Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Bellville Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on October 13 on charges relating to corruption‚ fraud and money laundering.
